Call For West Aussie Support For George Tatnells Relay This Saturday!
Posted Thursday, 26 April 2007 by Dean Neal

As part of the final big Speedway show for the season in WA at Bunbury City Speedway this Saturday night, we ask all attendees on the night where possible to please support The Tatnell family’s ‘Relay for Life to Fight Cancer’ initiative that will fall on the same day as the event itself at the Speedway.

One only needs to look at the scourge of cancer on one of Australian Speedway all-time great competitors and showmen first hand to see how the sooner the collective efforts of the world combine to find a cure to this disease, the better.

It’s amazing to think only just over a year ago that ‘GT’ was ripping fast laps around the Perth Motorplex in an 800-horsepower Sprintcar as part of a appropriately titled ‘legends night’.

Brooke Tatnell often remarks on his father’s unquenchable competitive spirit and one vivid memory where Brooke and his Triathlon wife Amy were being high-tailed on a mountain bike through Iowa, USA just a few short years ago by the flowing distinctive bleached locks of a father that means more than life to Brooke Tatnell.

“He was amazing… here was Amy and I riding along and he was doing more than a fair job of keeping up, pretty awesome for a guy his age, let alone any age,” remarked Brooke at the Time.

George Tatnell and the entire Tatnell clan have often been servants of the Sport of Speedway racing and proud visitors to both Claremont and Bunbury Speedways here in Western Australia in particular for many, many years.

This is our chance to acknowledge and support a man who’s brought more showmanship to Speedway than a dozen Drew Krucks and Dennis Moore Jr’s combined – and we know how ‘bling bling’ these boys are and GT nigh-on invented it!

Needless to say that the name G.Tatnell is inscribed on more than just a few National Championship honour boards that make him an out and out champion of our sport of Speedway as well.

As part of the Relay for Life, The ‘GT All Stars’ will enter a team of family and friends to be contested in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney this Saturday, which ironically falls on George Tatnell’s 68th birthday.

‘Gorgeous’ George is intending to participate in the relay this Saturday, however it will be contingent on his health on the day.

The Relay For Life is an overnight team event to raise funds for cancer research, education and patient support programs.

The challenge is for teams of 10 or more to complete a relay-style walk or run at selected venues throughout Australia, of which Sydney is but one of many locations. Team members take turns to keep their baton moving overnight as well for a 24-hour period.

We hope that all Bunbury Speedway attendees this Saturday dig deep and donate at the tins located in the Merchandise Shop Adjacent to the Pits, or when the tins are moved throughout the venue during the night for collection!

Even if you aren't attending this Saturday, you can make a direct and secure ONLINE donation by clicking HERE
